Added Value Services 2001 is able to offer our customers some of the most advanced computer aided order processing options available in the components distribution industry. This page describes some of those capabilities. We pride ourselves in our flexibility to be able to work with our customers to tailor our systems to suit their individual needs, and are pleased to discuss any specific details as required. KANBAN/FAXBAN Many of our customers are now using a Kanban approach to their supply management. 2001 has developed systems to handle this type of order. Stocks are purchased against specific customer forecasts. Agreed buffer quantities are held for those customers against the forecasted requirement. Kanban call-offs can be made via telephone call to a designated internal account manager or by fax (Faxban) or via EDI Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) 2001 has invested substantially in EDI capability, both with customers and suppliers. The complete forecast; order; order acknowledgement; and order change cycle can be actioned electronically. Orders placed in this way can be available for picking in our warehouse within 2-3 minutes of receipt, thus ensuring timely despatch. Customers using EDI may use any of the major value-added-networks (VANs) to send their orders and other messages. 2001 supports the use of Afdec Exchange, a Windows-based package developed for the Association of Franchised Distributors of Electronic Components (AFDEC), for the generation of EDI messages. We are, however, able to read messages generated by most proprietary packages using industry standard EDIFACT /EDIFICE message sets. In the future the despatch advice and invoicing cycles will be developed as customers demand this. JIT 2001 normally interprets request dates as being the date that our customer requires product to be shipped from our warehouse. For customers who require a Just-in-Time approach, our system will automatically raise despatch notes early, so goods will arrive on the required date. If customers have a specific day or days of the week when goods must arrive then our systems can be programmed to accommodate this. Ship-to-line 2001 maintains an ISO9000 Quality Management System and our computer systems provide us with full lot traceability back to the original manufacturer. Goods are stored and shipped on a 'First In, First Out' (FIFO) basis, so stock should always be 'fresh'. These points, together with a visual inspection of all incoming goods and outgoing shipments means that customers can be confident in our ability to supply goods directly to their production line. Kitting & Cable Assemblies As well as a full device programming and tape-and-reeling services, customer-specific kitting requirements or packaging needs are also supported. Devices may be supplied as fully prepared production or pre-packaged spares kits. Cables, connectors and other products, such as fans, can be prepared and supplied as pre-tested subassemblies. Bar-coding All product packages have identification labels applied to them when they leave 2001. The labels show the content of individual packs in both bar-coded and human-readable forms. This allows our customers to receive product into their stores with the minimum of effort. We use industry standard 'UN/EDIFACT' barcode identifiers to indicate part number; customer part number; order number; quantity; and lot code. We are able to accommodate customer-specific incoming barcode formats where needed. Other Developments We are currently investigating areas such as Internet e-commerce using new standards such as 'Rosettanet' XML messaging and In-place stores or consignment stocks and welcome requests from customers who would wish to work with us in developing these types of solutions.
